Charles Colin (born September 22, 1913 in Salem (Massachusetts) , † February 7, 2000 ) was an American jazz trumpeter , music teacher and author, who became known as the founder of the NY Brass Conference .

Colin began playing the trumpet at the age of eleven and studied at the New England Conservatory of Music with Louis J. Kloepfel. He began his career in New York in the early 1940s when he played in the WMCA house band before he switched to the Charlie Barnet Orchestra. In the following years he worked mainly as a trumpet teacher and coach for numerous musicians, mostly members of the brass sections of the big bands of Woody Herman , Raymond Scott or Louis Prima . He has also written several textbooks such as and transcriptions of the music by Charlie Parker , Miles Davis , Lee Morgan , Clifford Brown , Louis Armstrong , Bix Beiderbecke , Art Farmer and Red Rodney . Colin's books include a. 100 original warm-ups and lip flexibilities . In 1973 he founded the New York Brass Conference for Scholarships , a non-profit organization that presented the highlights of brass music during a three-day festival .
