Charles Désiré Dupond

Charles Désiré Dupond , mostly Charles Dupond , (born April 8, 1872 in Slijpe ; † November 20, 1952 in Laeken / Laken , Brussels ) was a Belgian ornithologist and director and editor of the journal Le Gerfaut - Revue belge d'Ornithologie .

Live and act

Dupond worked for 30 years as an editor for Le Gerfaut , an ornithological journal published by the Institut Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique . It was Victor van Straelen (1889–1964) who brought him to the institute. He worked for the institute since 1927 and mainly dealt with ornithological issues. It is thanks to him that bird ringing was introduced in Belgium . A very serious illness three years before his death resulted in his quitting all activities. He was a member of the Société Ornithologique de France , with which he was in constant correspondence. In 1942 he published a study on the avifauna of the Philippines and Dutch East Indies . In 1950 he published a supplement to Georges Charles Marie Clément Raphaël van Havre's (1871–1934) book Les Oiseaux de la Faune belge in cooperation with Jean Maus . For Les Oiseaux de la Faune belge he already worked with van Havre , but the latter did not want to accept a co-author on his work. Also some obituaries u. a. for van Havre , Henri Louis Ernest Jouard (1896-1938) and Philogène Auguste Galilée Wytsman (1866-1925) were published by him. Since 1932 he was an elected member of the American Ornithologists' Union .
