Philogène Auguste Galilée Wytsman (born August 12, 1866 in Termonde , † March 1, 1925 in Tervuren ) was a Belgian entomologist and ornithologist .

Live and act

Wytsman was a book publisher in Brussels. He was the son of Clément César Henri Joseph Wytsman (1825–1870), a notary, shipping agent and historian from Austria, and Emma Marie b. Cocquyt and brother of the Impressionist painter Rodolphe Wytsman . In addition to zoology, he was also interested in handicrafts and art.

Wytsman was the publisher of large-scale compilations on birds and insects in Brussels with the participation of many European scientists.

Wytsman was the editor of Genera Avium, a series that was published in 26 parts. In the second part from 1905 he was also an author on the Todis (Todidae).
