Charles F. Dougherty

Charles Francis Dougherty (born June 26, 1937 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is a former American politician . Between 1979 and 1983 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Dougherty attended St. Helena's School until 1951 and then St. Joseph's Preparatory School until 1955 . Between 1957 and 1959 he was a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve . Between 1959 and 1962 he was active in this branch of arms; thereafter he was back in the reserve until 1977. From 1962 to 1964 he continued his education with studies at the University of Pennsylvania . At the same time he also worked as a high school teacher. From 1965 to 1966 he was an agent for the ONI naval intelligence service . After that he worked in various positions in the school service until 1972. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . From 1972 to 1978 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate .

In the 1978 congressional elections , Dougherty was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Joshua Eilberg on January 3, 1979 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1983 . In 1982 he was not re-elected.

In 1992, 1998 and 2000, he applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress.
