Charles François Berton (born September 16, 1820 in Paris , † January 18, 1874 there ) was a French actor .

Life

Charles François Berton entered the Paris Conservatory in 1836, won first prize in a comedy, but made his debut in 1837 at the Théâtre français with little luck; he therefore went to the Vaudeville Theater, after which it soon ended, but again to the Théâtre français, where he was now successful in the Menteur . Under Duprez 's direction he also perfected himself in singing and later followed a brilliant offer as a singer to Vienna and St. Petersburg . Here he was Bressant's successor from 1846 to 1853, who he later replaced at the high school theater. Celebrated in plays such as Diane de Lys , Le gendre de Mr. Poirier , Demi-Monde and other sensational pieces of the modern repertoire, he was considered one of the best performers in this popular genre. He later went to Russia for the second time, where, without tying himself to a subject, he played the first roles. After his return to Paris (1860) he worked for several years at the Gaitétheater and then won as Marquis de Villemer of George Sand in Odéon , even more in 1866 as Baron d'Estrigaud in Augiers Contagion and in 1867 as Prince Condé in Bouilhets Conjuration d'Amboise great Successes. He then played in various tabloid theaters, including in 1869 in the Porte St. Martin in Sardous Patrie . For some time in melancholy, most recently insane, Berton died on January 18, 1874 at the age of 53 in Paris.

His wife (since 1842) Karoline Berton, daughter of his former teacher Samson, made herself known through novels, short stories and probes. Your Nuremberg doll was also given in Germany.
