Charles Gifford, 5th Baron Gifford

Charles Maurice Elton Gifford, 5th Baron Gifford (March 4, 1899 - April 16, 1961 ) was a British soldier and nobleman.

Family and title

Gifford was born as the eldest son of Maurice Gifford and his wife Marguerite Thorold. His paternal grandfather was Robert Gifford, 2nd Baron Gifford . His uncles were Edric Gifford, 3rd Baron Gifford and Edgar Gifford, 4th Baron Gifford . Gifford married Ellice Margaret Allen on March 5, 1939. From this marriage a son was born. He inherited the title of Baron Gifford and the associated seat in the House of Lords when his uncle, the 4th Baron, died on January 29, 1937 without male descendants. With his own death, the title and seat were transferred to his son Anthony , who currently leads him.

Military career

After completing his training, Gifford first joined the Royal Navy , where he rose to the rank of commander . From 1930 to 1935 he was aide-de-camp for Philip Game , then Governor of New South Wales . Later he served in the Royal Air Force and participated in the First World War in part. After leaving the army, he worked as a businessman.
