Charles Goerens (born February 6, 1952 in Ettelbruck ) is a politician of the Democratic Party from Luxembourg .

Life

After finishing school, Goerens studied agricultural science. In addition to his studies, Goerens became politically active and a member of the Luxembourg liberal Democratic Party , which Goerens was chairman from 1989 to 1994. Goerens gave the chairmanship of the party in 1994 to Lydie Polfer .

Goerens was a member of the European Parliament from 1982 to 1984 and from 1994 to 1999. Goerens was then Minister of Defense and Environment Minister of Luxembourg in the government of Jean-Claude Juncker from August 7, 1999 to July 31, 2004 . For a few days from July 20, 2004 to July 31, 2004, Goerens was Luxembourg's Foreign Minister. After the parliamentary elections in Luxembourg in 2004, Goerens lost his ministerial post with the government reshuffle. His successor as Minister of Defense of Luxembourg was Luc Frieden and his successor as Foreign Minister was Jean Asselborn .

Goerens has been a member of the European Parliament again since 2009 .

Activities as EU parliamentarians

Goerens is Deputy Chairman of the delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly .

He is a member of the Development Committee and the Human Rights Subcommittee . Goerens is a deputy in the Committee on Foreign Affairs , the Budget Committee and the Special Committee against Organized Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering .
