Charles Jean Bernard

Charles Jean Bernard (born December 5, 1876 in Geneva , † July 29, 1967 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch botanist and conservationist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " C.Bernard "

Live and act

Charles Jean Bernard was after graduation in 1905 head of the scientific laboratories at the botanical garden of Buitenzorg (Java). In 1907 he became director of the test station for tea growing there. From 1928 to 1933 he was director of the agriculture, industry and trade department in the Dutch East Indies .

Bernard was a pioneer in the field of nature conservation and from 1948 the first President of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUPN). As a botanist, he dealt with domestic orchids .
