Charles Joseph O'Reilly
Charles Joseph O'Reilly (born January 4, 1860 in Saint John , † February 4, 1923 in Nebraska) was a Roman Catholic clergyman born in Canada and the first bishop of the Diocese of Baker City .
Charles Joseph O'Reilly was born in Saint John, New Brunswick , in 1860 and was educated at St. Joseph's College , Memramcook. He was ordained a priest in Portland, Oregon on June 29, 1890 and first directed the Oswego and Tegardville Mission. In February 1894 he became rector of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Ward in Portland.
On June 25, 1903, O'Reilly was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. Appointed first bishop of the newly established diocese of Baker City . He received his episcopal ordination on the following August 25th from Archbishop Alexander Christie , with Bishops Alphonse Joseph Glorieux and Edward John O'Dea as co- consecrators .
Charles Joseph O'Reilly was named third Bishop of Lincoln , Nebraska, on March 20, 1918 . He held this office until his death. He died in 1923 at the age of 63 and was buried in Lincoln Catholic Cathedral.
