Charles Margai

Charles Francis Kondo Margai (born August 19, 1945 in Bonthe ) is a Sierra Leonean lawyer , politician and founder and chairman of the People's Movement for Democratic Change . He was Minister of Justice and Attorney General of his country from April 16 to June 11, 2018 .

Margai comes from a family of politicians. He is the nephew of the country's first Prime Minister , Milton Margai . His father Albert Margai was the second prime minister. Like his father and uncle, Margai was a member of the Sierra Leone People's Party before leaving in 1996. In 1998 he returned to the SLPP and held numerous ministerial offices under President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah in the following years .

In 2005 he finally founded his own party. Margai ran as a presidential candidate in 2007 with 13.9 percent of the vote, in 2012 with 1.3 percent and in 2018 with 0.4 percent of all votes.
