Charles Philippe Lafont (born December 1, 1781 in Paris , † August 23, 1839 ) was a French violinist .

Life

Charles Philippe Lafont was trained in violin playing by Rodolphe Kreutzer and Pierre Rode , and in composition by Henry Montan Berton . In 1801 he went on art tours all over Europe and in 1808 was appointed his first violinist and concertmaster in Petersburg by Emperor Alexander I.

Returned to Paris in 1815, he was the first violinist in the royal band and later the first musical accompanist of the Duchess of Berri. With Franz Liszt during his stay in Geneva he played a duo for piano and violin Grand Duo concertant sur la Romance: "Le Marin" On January 3rd and 10th, 1835 he played two conductors under Richard Wagner while passing through Magdeburg Concerts. The violinist Teresa Milanollo (1827–1904) was his student.

He had an accident on a journey between Bagnères-de-Bigorre and Tarbes when the post car overturned and died on August 23, 1839.

Compositions

As one of his numerous compositions (concerts, variations, fantasies, etc. for his instrument), which enjoyed great popularity at times, the work “So triomfar” can be found in the Thuringian State Archives in Rudolstadt . Scene and aria for soprano, concert solo violin and orchestra in D major .
