Charles Townshend, 3rd Viscount Townshend
Charles Townshend, 3rd Viscount Townshend ( July 11, 1700 - March 12, 1764 ) was a British peer and politician ( Whig ).
life and career
Townshend was born in July 1700 as the eldest son of Charles Townshend, 2nd Viscount Townshend and his wife. He attended Eton and King's College . After his graduation he succeeded his uncle in 1722 as a Member of the House of Commons for the constituency of Great Yarmouth . He held this mandate until the following year, when he was appointed early by a Writ of Acceleration to the House of Lords under the subordinate title of his father as Baron Townshend , of Lynn Regis in the County of Norfolk. Since his father was already being addressed as Lord Townshend , Charles Townshend was called Lord Lynn after the territorial dedication of the title . Townshend became Master of the Jewel Office and Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk in 1730 . He inherited the other titles from his father when he died in 1738.
family
On May 29, 1723, Townshend married Audrey Ethelreda Harrison († 1788), the only daughter and heir of the House of Commons and Postmaster General Edward Harrison (1674-1732), squire of Balls Park in Hertfordshire . Her surviving children were George , later Marquess Townshend (1724-1807), Charles (1725-1767) and Audrey (1736-1781), who married Robert Orme (1732-1790), a captain of the Coldstream Guards .
He died in March 1764 at the age of 63.
