The Charleston is a passenger ship whose home port is Berlin .

history

The ship was built from 1938 for the Traunseer-Schiffahrts-Gesellschaft in Austria , headed by Rudolf Ippisch senior , at that time without the closed superstructure that it now has. It was put into operation on October 10, 1941. It was initially called Feuerkogel . The ship was designed in a similar way to the two passenger ships Sonnstein and Karbach built by Lürssen in 1912 , but in contrast to these did not have an electric motor, but was powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine from Mercedes. Ippisch had the Feuerkogel built by his own staff according to the Sonnstein's construction plans .

When Rudolf Ippisch junior died in 1976, the company and all of the ships still in use at the time were sold to Karl Eder, who had competed with Ippisch for decades. Eder had the Sonnstein and Karbach converted for diesel operation and continued to use the Feuerkogel . After his death, his son Karlheinz took over the shipping company. In 1994/95 he had the Karl Eder built at the Lux shipyard . This two-deck ship for 232 people made numerous smaller ships of the company superfluous, which were therefore sold, including the Feuerkogel .

From 1994 onwards, the ship operated under the name Neckarperle for the Stumpf passenger shipping company on the Neckar and was mainly used as a taxi boat that operated between Heilbronn and Sontheim . Since this operation was not profitable, Rüdiger Stumpf sold the Neckarperle to Berlin in 2013, where it was given a new name.
