Charlie Dixon
Charles Edward "Charlie" Dixon (born December 31, 1898 in New Jersey , † December 6, 1940 in New York City ) was an American banjo player.
Life
Dixon first played in Sam Wooding's orchestra and later switched to Fletcher Henderson's orchestra . In 1922 he appeared in Henderson's orchestra at the "Club Alabam" in New York. Between 1923 and 1928 he played in various ensembles led by Henderson and was considered an excellent arranger from the early days of the swing style ; he was instrumental in developing the style of arranging swing tracks for big bands .
Several recordings of his arrangements were made with the Hendersons Orchestra, among which Sugar Foot Stomp , The Stampede and Chick Webb's Harlem Congo stand out. Dixon arranged That Naughty Waltz for the Chick Webbs Orchestra, with which he later participated .
