Charlotte Zinke
Charlotte ("Lotte") Zinke (née Maetschke ; born June 23, 1891 in Zielenzig near Frankfurt (Oder) ; † November 6, 1944 in Ravensbrück concentration camp ) was a German politician ( KPD ). She was a member of the German Reichstag .
Life
The young Charlotte Emilie Ernestine Maetschke set out from Zielenzig (near Frankfurt / Oder, today Sulęcin in Poland) to find work and a future in the Ruhr area. She came to Mülheim an der Ruhr , where she met the journeyman mason and later KPD functionary Willy Zinke. Both married on December 17, 1910.
Initially active in the SPD , Zinke joined the KPD in Essen- Frohnhausen in 1920 and from 1927 to 1930 held the office of district woman leader of the KPD Ruhr area. In 1928 she was elected to the Prussian state parliament , in 1929 to the Essen city parliament and in 1930 finally to the German Reichstag, of which she was a member until 1933.
After the National Socialists “ seized power ”, Zinke hid in Essen and in the Waldecker Land before emigrating to the Netherlands in spring 1933 . In January 1934 she and her husband returned to Essen, where they were interrogated by the police. In 1934 she was expelled from the KPD because she did not want to take part in illegal actions. After the assassination attempt on Hitler in July 1944, she was arrested by the Gestapo on August 26, 1944 in connection with the " Aktion Grid " arrest and initially taken into " protective custody " in Essen . At the end of September 1944, she was transferred to the Ravensbrück women's concentration camp. On the way there she was able to smuggle one last message to her husband. It says almost illegibly: “I hope I have the strength to endure all of this.” Zinke was murdered on November 6, 1944.
