Geographical location

The approx. 20 buildings in the town of Charlottenthal are widely scattered on the sunny southern slope of the Schönau Forest, which rises to a height of 722 m, south of Stadlern. The road SAD52 runs in the valley. The Czech border, only a few hundred meters away, is formed by the Bavarian Schwarzach , which arises about 5 km further north as "Goldbrunnen" from the Reichenstein massif on the southeast slope of the 896 m high Weingartner rock. Stadlern is around five kilometers away by road.

history

The Charlottenthaler Glashütte was founded in Charlottenthal in 1815. Its owner was Mr. Lenk, who bore the nobility name "von Ditersberg". She produced glass beads, so-called "paterln" for export overseas. From 1850, mirror glass was then cut. Locals still refer to Charlottenthal by the name "Gloshüttn". Until 1826 Charlottenthal belonged to Weiding, then it came to Stadlern.

Culture and sights

In Charlottenthal there is a chapel (built in 1845) where a service takes place once a month in summer. There is also a riding stables and two inns, one of which is very romantic in the old customs house on the hillside with a beautiful view over the meadows to the Czech border. In the other inn, lovers of traditional folk music often meet at the weekend to make music together.
