Charly Wagner
Charly Wagner (actually Karlheinz Wagner, * 8. June 1941 in Cologne , † 7. May 2020 ) was a German radio - journalist and moderator .
Life
Charly Wagner already appeared on the radio in his youth when he took part in the radio play I knew the voice in September 1953 . He completed an apprenticeship as an insurance salesman before he was permanently employed as a newscaster and announcer by the WDR from 1965 after a speaker training at Deutsche Welle and subsequent work as an editor . From 1973 he was also active as a radio presenter for his own programs, together with Max Schautzer at home and on the go . Since the 1980s he also worked as an announcer for WDR television . With programs such as the Bandstand , Swing and Ballads , Orchester der Welt and Schellack-Schätze he became “the voice” of WDR 4 .
After 39 years at WDR, Wagner retired in 2004. He moderated swing and ballads until 2006 and later returned to the Harald Schmidt Show for occasional appearances as a reader in the category “ Klassiker des Herrenwitzes” .
Wagner died at the age of 78 in his hometown of Cologne. He was buried in an urn on June 5, 2020 at the Lechenich cemetery.
