Chase F. Robinson

Chase F. Robinson is an American historian . His research focus is on the history of the premodern Middle East .

Life

Robinson studied at Brown University , where he received a Bachelor of Arts . He also attended the American University in Cairo , the University of Cairo and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem during his studies . 1992 doctorate he at the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations of Harvard University for Ph.D. From 1993 he was active at the Faculty of Oriental Studies and at Wolfson College at the University of Oxford , where he taught until 2008. In addition, from 1999 to 2000 he was a member of the School of Historical Studies at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University .

From 2008 to June 2013 he was Provost and Senior Vice President of the Graduate Center at the City University of New York . After serving as interim president , Robinson finally became president of the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in June 2014 .

The book he edited, The Formation of Islam, sixth to eleventh century won the Waldo G. Leland Prize of the American Historical Association .
