The Chastain Peak is a 2,255 m high mountain in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It rises in the center of the Moulton Escarpment on the western edge of the Thiel Mountains .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it during an expedition to the Thiel Mountains that lasted from 1960 to 1961. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1962 after the aircraft mechanic William W. Chastain of the United States Navy , who died along with four other flight participants when a P2V-2N Neptune crashed during take-off from Wilkes Station on November 9, 1961 came.
