The Chaukhamba (also Badrinath ) is a 7138 m high mountain in the Indian state of Uttarakhand in the Garhwal Himalayas .
Chaukhamba means "four pillars". The Chaukhamba (or Chaukhamba I ) is the highest peak in the western Garhwal Himalayas. The mountain has three secondary peaks that line up in a south-westerly direction: Chaukhamba II (7088 m, ⊙ ), Chaukhamba III (6995 m, ⊙ ) and Chaukhamba IV (6854 m, ⊙ ). The Gangotrigletscher , which feeds the right source river of the Ganges , Bhagirathi , begins on the western slope . The Satopanth glacier , which feeds the Alaknanda , the left source of the Ganges, begins on the southeast slope .
