The Cheakamus River is a left tributary of the Squamish River in the southwest of the Canadian province of British Columbia .

The Cheakamus River has its source at Outlier Peak in Garibaldi Provincial Park . It is fed by the meltwater from the McBride Glacier . It initially flows northwest through Cheakamus Lake . It then continues to flow northwest, but then turns south. The Cheakamus River flows into Daisy Lake . This was dammed in 1957 by Daisy Lake Dam . An 11 km long tunnel guides the water from the reservoir to the hydropower station (158 MW) to the west, from where it then flows into the Squamish River. Below the dam, Rubble Creek , the outflow of Garibaldi Lake , reaches the river from the left, which otherwise would have almost no water. The Cheakamus River continues its course south for its lower 25 km and joins the Squamish River north of Squamish . The Cheakamus River has a length of 75 km. The catchment area covers 1070 km². The mean discharge above the confluence of the Cheekye River 5 km above the mouth is 34.9 m³ / s. The highest monthly outflows occur in June.
