The Squamish River is a river in the southwest of the Canadian province of British Columbia .

The Squamish River has its origin at the Pemberton Icefield in the Pacific Ranges . From there the river flows mainly south to Squamish , where it flows into Howe Sound . Major tributaries of the Squamish River are the Elaho River and Ashlu Creek from the right and the Cheakamus River from the left. The Squamish River is approximately 90 km in length. The catchment area covers 3328 km². The mean discharge 16 km above the mouth is 237 m³ / s. The highest monthly discharges are measured between June and August, when the glaciers are melting.
