Chef Adams (born March 14, 1927 in Sturgis , Saskatchewan as Adam Edward Semeniuk , † August 28, 2017 in Lindsay , Ontario ) was a Canadian country musician.

Life

Born on a farm, Adams developed an early interest in the musical culture of the Ukrainian community in which he grew up. He learned to play the guitar at the age of 14 and later moved to Toronto . Dor Adams began his career as a musician. He played in parks and on the street, but had no work for a long time and therefore also lived on the street. After a while he got a job in a restaurant, where he got his nickname "Chef". Adams made contact with the local music scene and performed at events in the Toronto area.

In the mid-1950s, Adams formed his own band, Country Rhythm Kings , and released his first single on Quality Records in 1956. The single quickly became popular on Toronto's radio stations and helped kickstart Adam's career. He quickly took on more records and began performing on Canada's most famous country shows, Main Street Jamboree and Country Hoedown . In the following years he also made appearances in the American WWVA Jamboree . Despite his regular presence on television and radio, his records did not make it into the charts. In the early 1960s, he split from his band and worked with Yvonne Terry, but this connection only lasted about a year due to the lack of success. Adams continued to release singles until the 1970s, but then retired as an active musician. From then on he concentrated on producing and marketing other artists.

Adams gave up his tours in 1986, but still appears occasionally today. Due to his extensive touring activity, he has played with country stars such as Johnny Cash , Buck Owens , Hank Snow , Stonewall Jackson , Marty Robbins , Jim Reeves , Webb Pierce , Lefty Frizzell , George Jones , Glen Campbell , Patsy Cline and Wilma Lee & Stoney Cooper together. Chef Adams now lives in Lindsay, where he also holds a monthly country show, the Maple Leaf Country Jamboree .
