Chega! ( Portuguese for It's enough! or Enough!, abbreviation CH ) is a right-wing populist and right-wing extremist political party in Portugal .

history

Chega was founded by André Ventura , who holds a doctorate in law and a former tax officer , who was elected as the top candidate of the Partido Social Democrata for the city council of Loures in northern Lisbon in 2017 . However, he resigned this office, resigned from the PSD and founded Chega.

For the 2019 European elections , Chega joined forces with Partido Popular Monárquico and Partido Cidadania e Democracia Cristã to form the Basta coalition and received 1.49% of the vote. This was not enough for a mandate and the special purpose coalition was dissolved. In the election to the Portuguese Parliament in October 2019, the party received 1.3% of the vote and moved into parliament with one member - chairman André Ventura .

In July 2020, the party announced that it would join the right-wing populist and right-wing extremist European party Identity and Democracy .

election program

In addition to the typical right-wing populist program such as nationalism or EU skepticism , Chega advocates lower taxes, a much smaller parliament, judicial reform with harsher penalties for convicted offenders and an end to social assistance for people who do not want to work.
