Cheirogaleus grovesi is a primate species from the lemur group . It was described in late 2017 and named in honor of the recently deceased English-Australian mammalogen Colin Groves . Cheirogaleus grovesi occurs in the Malagasy region of Haute Matsiatra in the province of Fianarantsoa in the national parks Andringitra and Ranomafana and in the vicinity of these parks.

features

The holotype examined for the first description , an adult male, has a body length of 17.1 cm, a tail length of 27.7 cm and a weight of 404 g. Cheirogaleus grovesi is the largest species of the Cheirogaleus crossleyi species group. The other species in this group have an average weight of less than 330 g. The back, limbs and head are reddish-brown in color. The dark circles are brown-black. Between the eyes, above the hairless nasal mirror, there is a whitish spot. The underside of the lower jaw is white, the belly is reddish gray.

From Reddish dwarf lemur ( Cheirogaleus crossleyi ) and the lavasoa dwarf lemur ( C. lavasoensis ), its closest relatives in the Cheirogaleus grovesi group of species, from occurring in close geographic proximity ridge stripe dwarf lemur ( C. sibreei ) and by a further, previously undescribed Fettschwanzmakiart (Species CCS2) Cheirogaleus grovesi also differs through diagnostic features on the cytochrome b genes.

habitat

The species' fragmented habitat consists of submontane rainforest at altitudes of 754 to 999 m above sea level. Besides Cheirogaleus grovesi also live there golden bamboo lemur , the Great bamboo lemur , the small-toothed sportive lemur , the brown mouse lemur , the Milne-Edwards 'sifaka , the peyrieras' woolly lemur , the red-fronted lemur , the black and white Vari and the aye-aye .
