Chelidonisma
Chelidonisma ( ancient Greek χελιδόνισμα ) is the name for songs about the return of the swallows to Greece .
The word χελιδόνισμα chelidonisma derives from χελιδών chelidon , German , Swallow ' , and about means Schwalbenlied . Little folk songs of this kind were sung by children - and some of them are still today - who use the return of the swallows as an opportunity to sing for small gifts outside the front doors. They entered in this Heischebrauch it even in a costume reminiscent of swallows, so that this song a so-called roll song, the singing children imagine where in the role of the swallows.
Athenaios narrates the oldest of these songs (here the first lines):

καλὰς ὥρας ἄγουσα

This song, sung on the island of Rhodes , is one of the texts that signify the beginnings of ancient Greek poetry. Emanuel Geibel and Ernst Curtius published an early German adaptation in their Classical Studies in 1840 . The classical philologist Bruno Snell leads in his work Life and Opinions of the Seven Wise Men (1938) the origin of the song text on Cleobulus of Lindos in the 6th century BC. BC back.
Chelidonisma is also the title of a composition by Giorgos Kyriakakis for eight violins from 2006.
