Chen Fake ( Chinese  陳 發 科  /  陈 发 科 , Pinyin Chén Fākē , W.-G. Ch'en Fa-k'e ; * 1887 ; † 1957 , China ) 17th generation of the Chen family in Chenjiagou , Henan , People's Republic of China , one the greatest masters of the Chen style of the internal martial art Taijiquan . Went to Beijing in 1928, where he lived until his death and made the pure Chen style known to a wider public for the first time through his classes (after Taijiquan was already known in Beijing through Yang Luchan ).

Through his further development of the two forms of the "old frame" Laojia by Chen Changxing , the forms that are known today as Xinjia "new frame" were created.

Chen Fake was frail and sick as a child. Nobody expected that he would ever become a great master. This saddened him, and he decided that he would prove himself worthy of his family's inheritance. So he imposed an extremely tough exercise program on himself and over time became the greatest fighter of his time and a shining example for the concept of Wude, the martial virtue. He was widely famous not only for his invincibility in numerous challenges, but also for his integrity and sense of honor.

His son Chen Zhaoxu is the father of today's grand master and main representative of the Chen style, Chen Xiaowang . Chen Zhaoxu himself was considered very strong at an early age, then became careless, preferred to play music rather than practice, and so it happened that he did not emerge victorious from an attack. He complained to his father, Chen Fake, who was upset about his son who had gone off the rails and who gave him a bump that allegedly hit a three meter high wall. Ashamed of the incident, Chen Zhaoxu retired from intensive training in complete isolation for three years. So he was later able to defeat his challenger in a revenge.

Chen Fake's other son, Chen Zhaokui , as well as his nephew Chen Zhaopi became great masters who contributed particularly to the spread of the Chen style in China. These two were also the main teachers of today's Grand Master Chen Xiaowang .
