Chen Xiaowang

Chen Xiaowang ( Chinese  陳小旺  /  陈小旺 , Pinyin Chén Xiǎowàng ; * 1946 , Chenjiagou , Henan Province , China ), 19th generation of the Chen family in Chenjiagou, Henan, a main representative of the Chen style of the internal martial art Taijiquan .

Athletic career

Chen Xiaowang experienced his famous grandfather Chen Fake as a child . He learned Taijiquan from the age of eight, first from his father Chen Zhaoxu, then from Chen Zhaopi and Chen Zhaokui (see article on Chen Fake). At that time, Chenjiagou was still a sleepy nest in the Chinese hinterland. But when the Japanese began to be interested in Taijiquan, they also researched the origins of this martial art and finally came to Chenjiagou, where they were introduced to the thirty-year-old Chen Xiaowang as the leading master and heir of the family tradition.

The visit by the Japanese made them think, as Japan itself has a long and rich tradition of martial arts . Chen Xiaowang wanted to demonstrate the immense depth of Taijiquan to the world, and so he increased his daily workload considerably. He achieved a high level by doing up to over thirty mold runs per day and paying close attention to the basic structural work.

He systematized the basic Chen style exercises. So he developed his own form of the "standing pillar" - Zhanzhuang and put together two sets of "silk exercises" - Cansigong . He also developed short forms with 9, 19 and 38 figures.

In 1994, together with his student Jan Silberstorff, he founded the World Chen Taijiquan Association WCTA ( 世界 陳小旺 太極拳 總會  /  世界 陈小旺 太极拳 总会 ) and its German offshoot, WCTAG.

Today, Chen Xiaowang is constantly traveling to spread authentic Taijiquan all over the world.
