Cheviot Hills
The Cheviot Hills in Great Britain are a mountainous area that stretches on both sides of the Scottish-English border between Northumberland and the Scottish Borders . The highest point is The Cheviot (also known as Mount Cheviot ) at 815 m (2,674 ft ). The English side of the area is in Northumberland National Park . The Pennine Way Long Distance Hiking Trail runs through the Cheviot Hills.
The A68 crosses the Scottish-English border at Carter Bar at a height of 418 m .
The mountains are mostly made of Devonian granite with andesitic lava flows on the flanks. The substrate in the lower areas is limestone from the Carboniferous .
