background

The independent film was shot over several years. Director Dorian Weinzimmer and screenwriter Brant McCrea met at the Chicago Film School. In May 2010, a year after graduating, the two decided to work on a McCrea script together. Eleven months later, a campaign was launched on Kickstarter.com to fund the film. Filming began on November 1, 2011, but had to be canceled on December 20, 2011 because the production ran out of money. About 60% of the film was shot by this point.

A first trailer was created from the previously wacky material in order to attract new donors. A new sponsor was found in Steven Nanberg and filming was resumed. But problems arose due to the trailer. The property and business owners felt betrayed because they initially made their property available as filming locations free of charge. However, the trailer suggested a higher budget, so they renegotiated the rents.

The film was finally completed in July 2012. Only a piano scene was missing. In September 2012, however, Weinzimmer's father died suddenly and unexpectedly and the director felt unable to turn the scene off. In April 2013, he finally managed to film the scene on Lake Shore Drive.

Then the post-production began, which turned out to be tedious due to a lack of budget. In the meantime, a sound engineer also died unexpectedly.

The film was finally presented to the public for the first time on October 23, 2015. The premiere took place in the Chicago cinema The Vic in front of 800 people. The official world premiere took place on June 24, 2016 at the US film festival FilmQuest Cthulhu . In German-speaking countries, the premiere took place on October 29, 2017 at the Obscura Film Festival in Berlin.

In German-speaking countries, the film was released on May 4, 2018 on the Dutch uncut label Extreme as a DVD in a limited edition media book.
