Mikkel Larsen

Mikkel Langager Larsen (born November 10, 1972 in Copenhagen ) is a former Danish basketball player .

Life

After beginning his basketball career in Denmark at the age of 14 and stints at the clubs BMS and Horsens IC , Larsen moved to the United States in 1992 . There he studied and played until 1996 at Iona College (first NCAA division) in New York State. While the 2.06 meter tall inside player was still a substitute player for the team in the 1992/93 season, he improved considerably in his second year and increased his average point to 17.6 per game. He also collected 6.7 rebounds per game. These were the best statistical values ​​the Dane achieved during his four years in the United States. All in all, in four years as an Iona player, he had an average of 13.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per use.

Larsen moved to AEK Athens in Greece in 1996 and played for the team until 1998. In his second year in Athens he reached the EuroLeague final with AEK . The Dane continued his career in Italy, strengthening Ducato Siena in the 1998/99 season, after which he was signed by Real Madrid . There was a brief stint in the Spanish capital: Larsen was used by Real in 13 games in the ACB  league, but could not convince, in January 1999 the Madrid club loaned him to Adecco Milan (Italy).

In the 2000/01 season, the Dane was in the service of the Greek team Makedonikos Thessaloniki, in September 2001 he received a short-term contract with Caja San Fernando in Spain. Ultimately, he only played one game for the Seville team . Larsen moved to Bundesliga club Brandt Hagen in Germany for the 2002/03 season , after ten missions it came to a separation in December 2002.

He had spent his career as a professional basketball player exclusively abroad, but after his guest appearance in Hagen, Larsen returned to his home country and joined the first division club Horsens IC. There he played until 2007. In 2006 Larsen was Danish champion with Horsens and in 2004 runner-up. He was named the best player in the Danish league by the basketball news provider eurobasket.com in the 2003/04 season, and in the same game year and in 2005/06 also as the league's best center. In terms of statistics (16.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.9 blocks / game), 2003/04 was Larsen's best season in his home league.

National team

Larsen was a long-time Danish national player and took part in several European Championship elimination rounds and the B-European Championship in 2005.
