history

It is embedded in an extensive park landscape

In 1525, the lands and buildings around Chicheley were owned by the Archbishop of York , Cardinal Thomas Wolsey . Only a few years later, after his fall in 1529 and death in 1530, they fell back to the crown . On December 5, 1545, Anthony Cave purchased the estate . It later passed to the Chester family. During the English Civil War (1642 to 1649) the property was looted and devastated. It survived in ruins until the new Chicheley Hall building was built for Sir John Chester in 1719 .

In 1952 this was passed from the descendants of the Chester family to David Field Beatty, 2nd Earl Beatty (1905–1972), the son of the British war hero from the First World War , David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty (1871–1936) .

In modern times, Chicheley Hall is used as a conference hotel and has already hosted a number of prominent personalities, such as Tom Cruise , Nicole Kidman and even the Queen Mum .
