Chick Hearn
Francis Dayle "Chick" Hearn (born November 27, 1916 in Aurora , Illinois , † August 5, 2002 in Northridge , California ) was an American sports reporter. Between November 21, 1965 and December 16, 2001, he commented a total of 3,338 games by the Los Angeles Lakers in a row before he had to suspend some games after a medical operation.
Hearn's pictorial style of language made him an icon of the US commentary landscape. He made some of the most famous basketball phrases popular, such as " slam dunk " and " air ball ".
In 1986, Hearn received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . In 2003 he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame .
Hearn died on August 5, 2002 from complications from a head injury that he sustained in a fall three days earlier. He was buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City , California .
