History and description

The church building stands outside the closed development, surrounded by olive trees, and is dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel . Construction lasted from 1883 to 1885 and was commissioned and financed by the people of Soldano. The following inscription can be found on the facade :

“Alla costruzione apportò il suo contributo artistico il reverendo don Gio. Pietro Rossi di Montaldo . "

Madonna statue in the church

The original statue of the Madonna, made in 1885 by the Prinotti company from Mondovì ( CN ), is kept in a niche. The statue was replaced in 1952 by a 1.7 m high work made of wood, which was made by the wood carving workshop Santiffaler in Ortisei in Val Gardena ( BZ ).

In 1962, today's bell tower was built with the three bells that were carried by the population on their shoulders to the construction site because the road was not yet completed at that time.

The building includes a small, gable-independent building with a classroom, which is connected to the church by an arcade with architrave . In the gable triangle of the facade there are still frescoes and stucco work by the aforementioned Gio. Pietro Rossi from 1885 visible.

On the back there is still a small bell gable , which is now unused. Daylight enters the church through windows decorated with lunettes and a rose window depicting the Virgin protecting the village of Soldano.

Soldano and Perinaldo can be seen from the Oria hill and the church .
