Japanese cartographers mapped them using surveys and aerial photographs of the Japanese Antarctic expedition, which lasted from 1957 to 1962 . The designation took place in 1963. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the designation in 1964 in a partial translation into English.
