Chika Oduah
Chikaodinaka Sandra Oduah (born March 14, 1986 in Ogbaru, Anambra ) is an American-Nigerian journalist , television reporter and photographer .
Career
Oduah is the eldest daughter of Mercy and Emmanuel Oduah. She is a member of the Igbo ethnic group and has seven other siblings. At the age of two the family moved to the Atlanta , Georgia area of the United States. Even while she was in high school there, she became interested in journalism and was a reporter for "VOX newspaper", where she was interested in stories about immigrants and refugees in the greater Atlanta area. In 2004 she worked in Doraville, Georgia, at the local “Pan-Asia Center” for refugees from Afghanistan , Bosnia , Liberia , Iraq , Rwanda and South Sudan . Also from 2004 to 2008, she studied film, anthropology, and broadcast journalism at Georgia State University . She received a bachelor's degree in anthropology and telecommunications. She is a graduate of the "Medill Journalist School", from which she graduated with a master's degree in television journalism.
In 2009 she started working as a photographer for an advertising agency in Atlanta. A year later she was at K24 in Nairobi , Kenya , where she worked with Jeff Koinange. “Sahara Reporter” and the Kenyan national television station were her next professional stations. A special focus was on her reports on the activities of Boko Haram , starting in 2014. In 2017 she started a long-term documentary about the Biafra war . In 2019 she worked primarily for Al Jazeera , CNN and Voice of America . You can read their reports in newspapers such as the Guardian , the New York Times , The Daily Beast or the Huffpost .
