The Chimei Museum ( Chinese  奇美 博物館 , Pinyin Qíměi Bówùguǎn ) was founded in 1992 by the entrepreneur Shi Wen-Long in Tainan , Taiwan . The museum has been located in a park in the Rende district since 2014. The Chimei Museum collections include five categories: Western art ( painting , sculpture , decorative arts, and antique furniture ); Musical instruments , natural history , weapons and armor , antiques and artifacts .

history

Shi Wen-Long is the founder of the Chi Mei Corporation and also a violin and art lover . He has collected one of the world's largest collections of valuable violins and amassed an extensive art collection. In order to raise the level of classical music in Taiwan, he established the Chimei Cultural Foundation in 1977 and funded a scholarship for artists.

In 1992, Shi Wen-Long first founded the Chimei Museum in the Rende district , followed by a branch in the Southern Taiwan Science Park in 2001 . Both houses are now closed. The new Chimei Museum opened on Wenhua Street in 2014.

Collections

Pierre Auguste Cot Dionysia (1870)

The collections include more than 10,000 works from the collections of the Chimei Cultural Foundation and Shi Wen-Long. These are located in the “Fine Arts”, “Musical Instruments”, “Natural History & Fossils ”, “Weapons and Armaments” rooms and in the “Rodin Gallery”. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there is also a special exhibition in the “Changing Exhibition” room.
