Chinaknowledge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chinaknowledge - A Universal Guide for China Studies is an encyclopedia- like sinological online project by the sinologist Ulrich Theobald , who is currently doing research at the University of Tübingen , which has been running since 2000 .

The project provides information on Chinese history and culture in English that is often difficult to access. It is aimed at a broad public: from academics and students to interested laypeople. The entrance portal is divided into art , literature , history , religions , music , language and writing . According to the company's own statements, the focus is on traditional literature, biographies, historical terms and economic history. Many subject areas are covered with overview articles including alphabetical indices or glossaries. Updates and corrections take place at irregular intervals.

In the project, articles from high-level scientific reference works , such as B. the Siku da cidian and the multi-volume Zhongguo da baike quanshu ('Great Chinese Encyclopedia') systematically evaluated. Most of the articles consist of English translations.

The online presence of the Chinese reference works used, such as the aforementioned Siku da cidian and Zhongguo da baike quanshu, ensures extensive transparency, which also offers newcomers a quick introduction to individual subject areas and the secondary literature of a researched subject area.

The project offers a lot of information from subject areas that otherwise have not found their way into online encyclopedias such as Wikipedia or Baidu Baike and Hudong Baike (in China) or were only fed from inadequate sources.
