Quinoline-6-sulfonic acid is a heterocyclic chemical compound, which consists of a quinoline structure that has a sulfonic acid group in the 6-position .
presentation
Quinoline-6-sulfonic acid cannot be produced directly by sulfonating quinoline with oleum at a moderate temperature. This results in a mixture of the derivatives substituted in the 5- and 8-position , since the electrophilic aromatic substitution takes place most rapidly at these positions. Therefore these are the kinetic reaction products. When the product mixture is heated to above 250 ° C., however, isomerization to the thermodynamically more favorable quinoline-6-sulfonic acid takes place.
