Chios (mythology)
Chios ( ancient Greek Χίος ) is the eponymous hero of the island of the same name in Greek mythology .
Pausanias reports on an otherwise unrelated story by the playwright Ion von Chios , in which Poseidon's visit to the island is dealt with. Poseidon comes to the island when it is still uninhabited; with a nymph he fathered Chios, who got his name because of the snowfall that began at birth (ancient Greek Χίον "snow"). He begets Agelos and Melas with another nymph . In Stephanus of Byzantium Chios is as a son of Okeanos called.
