Early years

Sister Chiquita spent three years in England and cared for lepers in a ward near Bombay , India . She came to Timișoara in 1991 through the Help for Romania , Essen and Caritas , Essen campaign . She initially worked in one supported by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia and managed by Dr. Dunareanu supervised children's nursing schools as a practice instructor with children's nurse students. In Romania, she was confronted with the problems of orphans and handicapped children and set up her own aid program.

House source of life

Sister Chiquita founded this facility on her own initiative in 1992 . She rented an old orphaned rectory in Dudeştii Noi from the office of the bishop of the Roman Catholic Church . This house was renovated with own funds and officially inaugurated on October 16, 1992 as the Lebensquell house . The chief physician of the hospital in Timișoara granted his approval to admit orphans with severe motor and mental retardation on weekends. The children recovered well and the program was widely recognized. Some children from the homes in Timișoara were given to German parents for adoption .

Sister Chiquita retired in 1994 and has now fully concentrated on her project. She regularly housed 5-6 children in the house who spent 3-4 weeks with her for rehabilitation . First, the malnourished children received basic medical care. Together with Dr. Lupu from the Neuropsychiatry Hospital was given language lessons to the retarded children. Foot reflexology has been used with great success to heal the psyche.

All funds were raised by Sister Chiquita or private donors. The old rectory had many structural defects and had become too small for the project. In August 1999 she bought a larger farmhouse in Dudeştii Noi. Since she did not find any support from third parties at first, the purchase was financed by a loan of DM 40,000 and her life insurance , which had just been paid out . German donors of building materials and small sums of money made it possible to renovate the house, which was officially inaugurated on November 30, 1999. The patron saint of the house was St. Camillus of Lellis . On December 20, 1999, five two to five year old children from the state children's home found a permanent home in the Lebesquell house . In cooperation with the Commission for Minors in Timișoara, new children are regularly transferred to the house, the only one in the region that takes in severely physically and mentally handicapped children.

Around 70 children are now being cared for in Dudeştii Noi. In 2006 6 permanent employees worked in the house. The Diocesan Caritas in Timișoara supports the projects with administrative tasks, but not financially. The Wundertüte eV based in Essen supports the facility with donations and material.
