( Reuter , 1870)

Chlamydatus pullus is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 2.0 to 2.7 millimeters long. Species of the genus Chlamydatus are almost completely black in color and have fairly broad thighs ( femora ) on the hind legs. They look similar to the species of the genus Halticus , but have longer antennae that are more than body length. The second antennae is shorter than the head is wide. In Chlamydatus pullus , the hemielytres are completely black and the hairs on the rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs arise from black points. The tip of the antennae and large parts of the legs are yellowish. The wings of the adults of both sexes are fully developed (macropter) or slightly shortened (brachypter).

Occurrence and habitat

The species is distributed throughout the Palearctic and has also been introduced into the United States and Canada by humans. It is widespread and common in Germany and Austria.

Dry to moderately moist, grass-covered and open habitats are colonized, although unlike Chlamydatus pulicarius they are also found on drier, less overgrown sandy areas such as dune-like habitats.

Way of life

The bug, like Chlamydatus pulicarius , with which it can appear, is probably polyphagous . But they prefer apparently daisy family (Asteraceae) and legumes (Fabaceae). Egg laying on white clover ( Trifolium repens ) is also documented. The bugs and especially the nymphs live mainly on the ground. The adult animals rarely climb up the plants in the sunshine. There are two generations per year, of which the adult bugs can be observed from late May to mid-July and from July to September. In less warm places, the development can be delayed by a month. The overwintering takes place as an egg.
