Choe Sang-uk

Choe Sang-uk (* 1929 in Ch'angsŏng-gun , P'yŏngan-pukto province ) is a former North Korean politician of the Labor Party of Korea (PdAK) and Colonel General of the Korean People's Army , who was a member of the Central Office between 1980 and 2010 Military Commission as well as a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PdAK and deputy of the Supreme People's Assembly . The light infantry specialist also dealt with issues relating to North Korea's nuclear weapons program .

Life

Choe Sang-uk attended school in Mangyongdae-guyok and after school for military cadres in Hoeryong , where he, among others, in guerrilla - warfare was formed. During the Korean War he was first platoon leader and finally company commander . After the war, he was part of a group of soldiers in the Korean People's Army who were training officers in the Soviet Union . At times he was an intelligence and advisory officer in the military department of the Central Committee (ZK) of the Labor Party of Korea (PdAK) and between 1961 and 1964 was employed as head of a section in the General Staff of the People's Army. Subsequently, he was in the army of the Korean People's Army from 1964 to 1966 first deputy commander and from 1966 commander of the 16th Light Infantry Brigade. In the early 1970s, he became deputy commanding general of the VIII Corps, which was specifically intended for use in a low-intensity conflict . From 1973 to 1976, at the end of the Vietnam War, he served as the head of the People's Army mission in Vietnam .

After his return to North Korea, Choe became a candidate of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PdAK in 1976 , in the sixth electoral term in 1977 he was deputy of the Supreme People's Assembly and in 1978 the commanding general of the VIII Corps. At the 6th party congress, which took place from October 6 to 10, 1980, he became a member of the Central Committee of the PdAK for the first time, as well as a member of the Central Military Commission , to which he belonged for thirty years until 2010. In this capacity he belonged to a group of generals such as O Kŭng-nyŏl , Kim Kang-hwan and Kim Yŏng-ch'un . In addition, from the mid-1980s to 2010, he served as the commanding general of the artillery command and as inspector of the general staff of the People's Army. The light infantry specialist also dealt with issues relating to North Korea's nuclear weapons program and was most recently promoted to Colonel General (sangchang) . He was also the head of the Artillery Advisory Bureau and military advisor to Kim Jong-il . After the 3rd party conference on September 28, 2010, he no longer appeared on lists of members of the Central Military Commission and the Central Committee of the PdAK and no longer appeared in public.
