Cholm (also Chulm , formerly Tasch Kurgan ; Pashto / Dari :خلم) is a city in Afghanistan in the province of Balkh , 60 km from Mazar-e Sharif .
Cholm is located on the river of the same name north of the ridge of the Marmal Mountains , a foothill of the Hindu Kush . According to calculations in 2012, the city has a population of 16,597 inhabitants. The city was renamed in the course of the Pashtunization.
In December 2010, an advisor to the KfW banking group was killed near the city . He was supposed to supervise the construction of a road from Cholm to Masar-e Sharif.
