Chos Malal is the capital of the Chos Malal department of the same name in the Neuquén province in southwest Argentina . The place belongs to the municipalities of the 1st category in the classification of municipalities in the province of Neuquén.

origin of the name

The name of the city comes from the Mapudungun . Chos Malal means yellow corral .

history

Colonel Manuel José Olascoaga founded Chos Malal on August 4, 1887. It was the capital of the Neuquén province from 1887 to 1904.

The place is surrounded by the Río Neuquén and Curi Leuvú rivers . The Cordillera del Viento mountain range is located near Chos Malal.
