The Chos Malal department is located in the north of the Neuquén province in southern Argentina and is one of 16 administrative units in the province.

It borders Chile to the north, the province of Mendoza and the Pehuenches department to the east, the Ñorquín department to the south and the Minas department to the west .

The capital of the department Chos Malal is the same Chos Malal .
