Chris Barnard
Christiaan Johan Barnard (born July 15, 1939 in Mataffin near Nelspruit , † December 28, 2015 in Cape Town ) was a South African writer. He was a member of the Sestigers and received numerous literary prizes .
Life
Barnard attended the Hoërskool Nelspruit, which he graduated from Matric in 1957 . He studied Afrikaans / Dutch and art history at the University of Pretoria .
In 1961 he received the first CNA Literary Award for his debut novel Bekende onrus . In 1962 he was a co-founder and one of the youngest members of the avant-garde movement of the Sestigers, who write in Afrikaans. At the age of 25, like many other members of the movement, he traveled to Paris . He leaves an extensive work behind. In addition to novels and short stories, Barnard wrote dramas , screenplays - especially for television - and radio plays .
Chris Barnard was first married from 1962 to 1978. In 1978 he married again. From the two marriages he had four sons. He last lived on the Thulani farm near his birthplace. Barnard died of a myocardial infarction at the age of 76 .
