Chris Ethridge

Chris Ethridge (born February 10, 1947 in Meridian , Mississippi , † April 23, 2012 there ) was an American guitarist and bassist . He was the co-founder of the two country rock bands International Submarine Band and Flying Burrito Brothers .

Life

Chris Ethridge was born in Meridian, Mississippi in 1947. Before moving to California at the age of 17 , he had played in several bands. In California he met guitarist Joel Scott Hill and joined Gram Parsons ' International Submarine Band with him . Parsons then left the band for The Byrds , before founding the Flying Burrito Brothers with Ethridge in 1968 . After just one album, Flying Burrito Brothers , Ethridge left the band again and toured as an instrumental musician for Emmylou Harris , Clarence White and Sneaky Pete Kleinow . Parsons died in September 1973, and Ethridge joined his band Docker Hill Boy , in which Joel Scott Hill played. Together with Sneaky Pete and Gib Guilbeau , the two formed again as the Flying Burrito Brothers and in 1975 recorded the album Flying Again .

Ethridge also left this band after a year, became a studio musician and worked with Johnny Winter , Ry Cooder and Randy Newman , among others . He also toured with Willie Nelson for over eight years.

Ethridge, who was married with two sons and a daughter, died of pancreatic cancer .
