Gib Guilbeau (born Floyd August Guilbeau on September 26, 1937 in Sunset , Louisiana , † April 12, 2016 ) was an American country musician , singer, string player and songwriter.

Life

Beginnings

Gib Gilbeau, who comes from the deep south of the USA, began playing fiddle at the age of fourteen , was a member of various school bands and worked in several country formations during his military service with the US Air Force. In 1957 he founded the Four Young Men with Darrell Cotton, Ernie Williams and Wayne Moore , who released a few singles and renamed themselves The Casteways in 1963 . Williams left a little later and was replaced by Gene Parsons .

In 1966 Guilbeau teamed up with Parsons to form the duo Cajun Gib & Gene . At one gig they met the guitarist Clarence White , who had previously played with the Kentucky Colonels . Together they founded the group Nashville West in 1967 , to which Wayne Moore joined a little later.

Career

Nashville West was the house band of the club of the same name and took part in numerous recordings for the small Bakersfield International Records label. After just over a year, the group broke up after White joined the Byrds . Guilbeau then founded together with Eric White, a brother of Clarence, and his brother-in-law Stan Pratt the group Swampwater , which existed until 1972 and became known as the backing band of Linda Ronstadt and Arlo Guthrie .

He then worked as a studio musician and songwriter. In 1975 the Flying Burrito Brothers were re-established , which then included ex-members Sneaky Pete Kleinow and Chris Ethridge as well as Guilbeau and Gene Parsons. The group lasted until the late 1990s. There were frequent changes in the line-up, the only constant member being Guilbeau. He was a singer, guitarist and wrote much of the song material. In 1980 the band renamed itself to Burrito Brothers , later the well-known Flying was added again . In 1980 Gib's son Ronnie joined the burritos.

Shortly after the turn of the millennium, he founded a record label, Beau Town Records, on which he published his own music and recordings made by friends. In 2003, the album Songs I Like was released here , on which he, accompanied by his longstanding musical companions, re-recorded the best of his more than one hundred compositions.
