Chris Hunter (musician)
Chris Hunter (* 21st February 1957 in London ) is an English jazz - saxophonist (alto saxophone, soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone) and flutist .
Live and act
Chris Hunter was taught by in youth Don Rendell and played in the second half of the 1970s in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra , with whom he led by Mike Westbrook on tour went.
Hunter became known as a member of Gil Evans ' Monday Night Orchestra from 1984 until his death in 1988. His high, sharp tone on the alto saxophone is similar to that of David Sanborn , but with a more blues feel . His best solos can be found on Evans records, while he has had little success with his own projects. Hunter also played in the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band from 1984 to 1998 , with Michel Camilo , Tony Scott and Michael Gibbs' big bands . Since 2015 he has been part of the Manhattan Jazz Quintet, with which he has created several albums.
